The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Standard (8 CCR§3380-3400) includes specific requirements for employers to determine the need for PPE, properly select the device that is required and advise employees of the hazard and proper use of the PPE for protection.
The Personal Protective Equipment service includes:
- Assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present that necessitate the use of PPE
- Properly select and require employees to use appropriate PPE and communicate selection decision to each affected employee
- Verify compliance through a written certification that identifies the workplace assessment, the person performing the evaluation and the date
- Conduct periodic inspections to ensure that PPE is properly used and that the sanitation requirements of the PPE standards are satisfied in order to keep the equipment clean
