The Respiratory Protection Standard (8 CCR§5144) governs all respirator use and is intended to protect the employee, to the extent feasible for this control measure, from airborne contaminant hazards.

The Respiratory Protection service includes:

  • Written program
  • Proper respirator use and selection in routine as well as emergency situations
  • Medical evaluation and documentation initially and periodically thereafter
  • Fit testing and documentation initially and annually thereafter
  • Initial and annual training
  • Creating procedures and schedules for disinfecting, storing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining respirators
  • Procurement of available suppliers
  • Development of procedures to assure that users are medically fit and to avoid health hazards through proper cleaning, storage and use
  • Record keeping to demonstrate compliance
